St. Peter Chrysologus
Thursday, July 30, 2026
Saint Peter Chrysologus was a fifth-century bishop and Doctor of the Church whose clear, powerful preaching earned him the name “Chrysologus,” meaning “Golden-Worded.” As Bishop of Ravenna, he became known for concise homilies that explained profound Catholic truths with clarity and force. He preached on the Incarnation, the dignity of human life, reverence for the Holy Eucharist, and the need to defend the faith from heresy. More than 170 of his sermons still survive, reminding us that words rooted in truth and spoken with charity can correct error, heal division, and lead souls to Jesus Christ.
