St. Who Spread Devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary
Wednesday, August 19, 2026
Saint John Eudes was a seventeenth-century French priest, missionary, and religious founder who became one of the great apostles of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. A gifted preacher and confessor, he dedicated his life to bringing souls to conversion and forming holy priests. He founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary—the Eudists—as well as the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity to care for women in need. Saint John Eudes taught that the Sacred Heart reveals Christ’s boundless love for humanity, while the Immaculate Heart reflects Mary’s profound love for God and her maternal care for souls. His life reminds us that genuine devotion to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary must lead us to deeper conversion, greater holiness, and love of God.
