Daily reflections on the lives of the saints
Today's Saint
St. Lawrence
Monday, August 10, 2026
Saint Lawrence was one of the seven deacons of Rome and one of the most beloved martyrs of the early Church. During the persecution of Emperor Valerian, Lawrence was ordered to surrender the Church’s treasures. Instead, he gathered the poor, widows, and orphans and presented them to the authorities, declaring that they were the true treasures of the Church. For his faith and defiance, Lawrence was condemned to a brutal martyrdom. Yet tradition remembers him facing death with extraordinary courage and even humor. Saint Lawrence reminds us that the true wealth of the Church is not gold or property, but souls—and that love for Christ is worth more than life itself.
