St. Whose Birthday the Church Celebrates

The Nativity of Saint John the Baptist celebrates the miraculous birth of the prophet chosen by God to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. Filled with the Holy Spirit even before birth, John recognized the Savior while still in his mother's womb and spent his life calling people to repentance. As the last and greatest of the prophets, he reminds us that every life has a God-given purpose and that our mission is to point others to Christ.
