Daily reflections on the lives of the saints
St. Lydia of Thyatira
Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Saint Lydia of Thyatira was a successful merchant whose open heart helped establish Christianity in Europe. After hearing Saint Paul preach in Philippi, she accepted the Gospel, received Baptism with her household, and welcomed the missionaries into her home. Her generosity helped create one of the earliest Christian communities on the European continent. Lydia used her influence, resources, and hospitality not for personal glory, but to advance the Kingdom of God. Her witness reminds us that the faith often spreads through ordinary people who open their hearts, homes, and lives completely to Jesus Christ.
