Daily reflections on the lives of the saints
St. Jane Frances de Chantal
Wednesday, August 12, 2026
Saint Jane Frances de Chantal lived nearly every major vocation a woman could experience: wife, mother, widow, spiritual daughter, and religious foundress. After the sudden death of her husband, she endured profound grief but continued to seek God’s will. Through the guidance of Saint Francis de Sales, she helped found the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary, creating a path of deep prayer and service for women unable to endure the severe physical penances of other religious communities. Her life was marked by loss, spiritual dryness, and sacrifice, yet she remained faithful. Saint Jane Frances de Chantal reminds us that God can transform even our deepest sorrows into grace for others.
