Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great, became one of the most influential Christian women of the Roman world. After Constantine legalized Christianity, Helena journeyed to the Holy Land, where she supported the construction of churches at some of Christianity’s most sacred sites, including Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Most famously, ancient Christian tradition credits Saint Helena with discovering the True Cross upon which Jesus Christ was crucified. Her pilgrimage and generosity helped preserve holy places that Christians continue to venerate nearly 1,700 years later. Saint Helena reminds us that it is never too late to devote our lives, influence, and resources completely to Jesus Christ.
