Saint Pius X rose from a poor Italian family and the life of a simple parish priest to become pope—and one of the great reforming saints of the modern Church. Known as the “Pope of the Eucharist,” he encouraged frequent Holy Communion and lowered the age for First Communion so children could receive Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament at an earlier age. Saint Pius X also strengthened Catholic catechesis, restored Gregorian chant to a central place in sacred music, and courageously confronted Modernism in defense of the Catholic faith. His papal motto was “To restore all things in Christ.” His life reminds us that authentic Catholic renewal begins not by adapting the faith to the world, but by bringing souls back to Jesus Christ—especially in the Holy Eucharist.
