St. The Day Mary Was Taken Body and Soul Into Heaven
Saturday, August 15, 2026
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates one of the great truths of the Catholic faith: at the completion of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. Believed by Christians from ancient times, the Assumption was solemnly defined as dogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950. But this feast is not only about Mary—it points toward the destiny promised to all who die in Christ: the resurrection of the body and eternal life with God. Mary has already received what the faithful hope one day to receive. Her Assumption gives us a glimpse of the glory that awaits those who remain faithful to her Son.
