St. Who Faced an Army With the Blessed Sacrament

Saint Clare of Assisi left behind wealth and privilege to follow Christ in radical poverty, prayer, and trust in God. Inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi, she founded the Poor Clares and spent more than four decades living a hidden life of simplicity and devotion. When soldiers threatened Assisi, Clare carried the Blessed Sacrament to the convent walls and prayed. According to tradition, the attackers fled without a fight. Her life reminds us that true strength does not come from power, wealth, or force, but from complete confidence in Jesus Christ.
