Saint Oswald of Northumbria was a seventh-century king who used his throne not simply to rule, but to spread the Catholic faith. After years in exile, Oswald returned to reclaim his kingdom. Before battle, he raised a wooden cross, gathered his soldiers in prayer, and placed his trust in God. After victory, he invited Saint Aidan to evangelize his people and helped establish Christianity throughout Northumbria. Known for his generosity to the poor, Oswald once gave away his own Easter meal and even his silver dish to feed the hungry. He later died in battle while praying for his soldiers and was honored as a martyr king. Saint Oswald reminds us that true leadership is measured not by power, but by faith, charity, and service to God.
