St. The Atheist Philosopher Who Found Christ and Died at Auschwitz
Sunday, August 9, 2026
Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, better known as Edith Stein, was a brilliant Jewish philosopher who became an atheist, searched relentlessly for truth, converted to Catholicism, entered the Carmelite Order, and ultimately died as a martyr at Auschwitz. Her encounter with the writings of Saint Teresa of Avila transformed her life. She was baptized in 1922, entered Carmel in 1933, and later offered her suffering for her people as Nazi persecution intensified. Her life is a powerful witness that the sincere search for truth ultimately leads to Jesus Christ—and that fidelity to Him can demand everything.
