Daily reflections on the lives of the saints
St. Francis of Assisi
Sunday, October 4, 2026
Saint Francis of Assisi began life as the privileged son of a wealthy merchant who dreamed of adventure, status, and worldly glory. Then Christ changed everything. After illness and a series of profound spiritual encounters—including hearing Christ speak to him from the crucifix at San Damiano—Francis abandoned his wealth and embraced a life of radical poverty. He cared for lepers, preached the Gospel with extraordinary simplicity, founded the Franciscan Order, and called Christians back to humility, peace, and complete dependence upon God. Near the end of his life, Francis received the stigmata—the wounds of the crucified Christ—upon his own body. Saint Francis reminds us that true freedom and lasting joy are not found in what we possess, but in surrendering everything to Jesus Christ. e715c355-7eb2-43de-91bb-aebc401… Subscribe to Catholic Voices and Prayers for more powerful stories of the saints and the Catholic faith.
