St. Paul of the Cross
Tuesday, October 20, 2026
Saint Paul of the Cross dedicated his entire life to proclaiming the extraordinary love of Jesus Christ revealed through His suffering and death upon the Cross. Born in Italy in 1694, Paul Danei experienced profound mystical encounters that deepened his understanding of Christ's Passion as the ultimate expression of God's love for humanity. Inspired by these experiences, he founded the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ, known as the Passionists, a religious order dedicated to preaching the Passion, calling sinners to repentance, and bringing souls closer to God. A gifted preacher, spiritual director, and confessor, Paul taught that meditating upon Christ Crucified could transform even the hardest hearts. His spiritual teaching is captured in these powerful words: “The remembrance of the most holy Passion of Jesus Christ is the door through which the soul enters into union with God.” Saint Paul of the Cross reminds us that the Cross is not a symbol of defeat, but the greatest revelation of divine love—and the path to redemption, healing, and eternal life.
