St. Alexander Sauli
Sunday, October 11, 2026
Saint Alexander Sauli became known as the “Apostle of Corsica” for his extraordinary efforts to restore the Catholic faith in a neglected and impoverished diocese. Born in Milan in 1534, Alexander entered the Barnabite Order and became a respected scholar, preacher, and spiritual leader. When appointed Bishop of Aléria in Corsica, he discovered churches falling into ruin, widespread poverty, and communities struggling to maintain their faith. Rather than retreat from the challenge, Alexander dedicated himself to rebuilding churches, educating the faithful, reforming the clergy, and bringing souls back to Christ through patient preaching and charity. His work continued when he later became Bishop of Pavia. Saint Charles Borromeo admired his holiness and called him “a second Ambrose.” Saint Alexander Sauli reminds us that genuine reform in the Church begins with holy shepherds who love their people and lead by example. 3d1319e6-6a51-40fa-833f-9ca9e8f… Subscribe to Catholic Voices and Prayers for more powerful stories of the saints and the Catholic faith.
