Can You Really Pray to God for ANYTHING?

Core Catholic Doctrine1:16

Description

Can you really pray to God for anything? Jesus tells us, “Ask, and you shall receive.” Catholics can bring every genuine need, fear, desire, and struggle to God. But prayer is not magic, and God will never help us accomplish something sinful or evil. Jesus gives us the perfect model in the Garden of Gethsemane. Facing His Passion, He asked that the cup might pass from Him—but surrendered completely to the Father: “Not as I will, but as You will.” That should be the spirit behind every Catholic prayer. Ask for healing. Ask for work. Pray for your marriage and children. Ask for help with your responsibilities. But prayer doesn't replace action. God gave us intelligence, freedom, and talents and expects us to use them. Bring everything to God. Ask boldly. Then trust Him enough to say: Thy will be done.
