Why the ends never justify the means in science #catholicteaching #ethics #shorts
Description
Can destroying human embryos for medical research ever be morally justified if it leads to cures for serious diseases? The Catholic Church teaches that **deliberately destroying innocent human life is always gravely immoral**, regardless of the potential benefits. This is why the Church opposes embryonic stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos. Catholic teaching holds that human life deserves respect and protection from its earliest beginning. An embryo cannot be treated as disposable biological material simply because scientists believe its cells might produce medical breakthroughs. But there's an important distinction. **The Catholic Church does NOT oppose all stem cell research.** Adult stem cells and umbilical cord blood stem cells can be obtained without destroying embryos. These approaches have already produced valuable medical treatments and continue to offer promising avenues for research. Catholic moral teaching insists that science must serve human dignity rather than violate it. **The ends never justify the means.** We cannot deliberately destroy innocent human life in the hope of saving others. True medical progress must respect both the patients we hope to heal and the human lives involved in developing those treatments.
