Why Catholics Reject Once Saved Always Saved

Can a Christian lose their salvation? Many people believe “once saved, always saved,” but the Catholic Church teaches that salvation is a life of grace, repentance, obedience, and perseverance. Catholics believe salvation is entirely a gift from God, but grace does not destroy free will. A Christian can fall from grace through mortal sin or by abandoning the faith. Scripture repeatedly warns believers to endure, remain faithful, and persevere to the end. But this is not a message of despair.
