Is Hell Real? And Where Is It?

Moral Theology & Christian Living1:27

Description

Is Hell a physical place? Where is it? And what actually makes it so terrible? Catholic teaching distinguishes between the realm of the dead spoken of in Scripture and the Hell of the damned: the state of definitive separation from God. The deepest suffering of Hell is traditionally called the pain of loss—the eternal loss of union with God. Catholic tradition also speaks of the pain of sense, referring to the real suffering of punishment. Fear of Hell is not the highest motive for avoiding sin. Love of God is. But Christ’s warnings about Hell are real and should move us toward repentance, Confession, and perseverance in grace.
