Is avoiding sin enough to live a holy Catholic life?
Description
Is avoiding sin enough to live a holy Catholic life? No. The Ten Commandments teach us what we must avoid, but Christianity isn't merely about staying away from evil. God also calls us to actively become virtuous and holy. Catholic tradition identifies four cardinal virtues upon which the moral life hinges: Prudence. Justice. Fortitude. Temperance. Virtue transforms the Christian life from simply saying “I didn't do anything wrong” into actively becoming the person God created us to be. We don't merely avoid dishonesty—we become truthful. We don't merely avoid cowardice—we become courageous. We don't merely avoid selfishness—we learn sacrificial charity. Jesus Christ didn't come merely to make us respectable people. He came to make saints. Avoid sin. Remain in a state of grace. Practice virtue. Do good. Love sacrificially. Become holy.
