Why Purgatory Does Not Cancel the Cross?

Does Catholic belief in Purgatory mean that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ was insufficient? No. Purgatory exists only because of the Cross. Christ paid the full price for our redemption, but Scripture also teaches that a saved soul may still require purification before entering the perfect presence of God. Purgatory is not Hell, a second chance, or a way to earn salvation. It is God completing the healing of souls who die in His friendship but still carry the effects and attachments of sin. Every soul in Purgatory is saved, and every grace of purification flows from the Passion, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
