Being a “Good Person” Isn’t Enough to Be Catholic

Core Catholic Doctrine1:29

Description

Is being a “good person” enough? Christianity demands something far greater than simply being nice, friendly, or respectable. God calls us to holiness. Catholic tradition teaches us to cultivate virtue—prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance—and to put our faith into action through the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. The saints weren't necessarily people who never struggled or fell. What distinguished them was their response to God's grace: repentance, perseverance, prayer, sacrifice, the Sacraments, and a relentless desire to do God's will. Feed the hungry. Visit the sick. Forgive injuries. Pray for the living and the dead. And when you fall, get back up. The goal of the Christian life isn't merely to die as a “good person.” It's to become a saint.
