Why cant catholics have same sex unions

Can Catholic priests bless same-sex couples? And does such a blessing mean that the Catholic Church now approves same-sex unions? The distinction is crucial. Catholic teaching holds that homosexual inclination is not itself sinful, while homosexual acts are contrary to the Church's moral teaching. Marriage remains the lifelong union of one man and one woman. The Church also distinguishes between blessing persons who ask for God's help and blessing or legitimizing a same-sex union as though it were marriage. A pastoral blessing does not create a marriage, change Catholic sexual morality, or make morally permissible what the Church teaches is sinful. Every Catholic—regardless of sexual attraction—is called to chastity, conversion, holiness, and ultimately union with Jesus Christ.
